Broadneck Boys End Losing Streak Vs. Severna Park, Win 10-8

Posted

For over seven years, the Broadneck Bruins boys lacrosse team has been unable to clear their biggest hurdle in the county, as they lost 11 straight games to Severna Park since beating them on April 17, 2015. And those losses ranged from close overtime games to double-digit blowouts. But Broadneck looked like they were going to blow out the Falcons on April 29, as the Bruins jumped out to a 4-0 lead less than six minutes into the first quarter.

For a while, the Falcons were unable to close the gap to two goals as the Bruins responded with a goal of their own after the Falcons scored. Jake Schroll had five goals  and an assist for the Bruins while Jackson Shaw scored his two goals about 10 seconds apart, with both being goals from point-blank range.

Joaquin Villagomez and Nolan Zborai both had hat tricks for the Falcons, who were down 10-5 with about eight minutes left in the game, before scoring three goals, two of them by Zborai, to make it a 10-8 game with just over two minutes left. But Bruins goalie Colin Gray made two big saves in those final minutes to preserve the lead.

With the loss, the Falcons fell to 8-4 on the season with just a handful of games left before playoffs. Meanwhile, the Bruins improved to 10-2 and 6-0 against conference opponents. Like the Falcons, they too have just a few games left to play before they get ready for the playoffs.
