Ballers Take Skills To The Court, Win Hoops Title

Posted

The Ballers are all good athletes — they’ve shown it on the lacrosse and soccer fields of Severna Park and beyond.

It was time to give basketball a try. The Ballers balled out on the court, too.

Severna Park’s group of neophyte hoopers took to the sport enough to claim a 21-15 win in the Green Hornets seventh-/eighth-grade girls club basketball championship game at Severn School on February 21.

Keira Abere, Isabella Belotte, Francesca Gelfand, Grace Lamon, Caroline Levin, McKenna Miller, Avery Serpa, Adalynn Smith, Alyssa Tutas, Ava Tutas and Isabella Van Gieson formed the team, which was coached by Eric Van Gieson, Chris Tutas, Christina Morganti and Chris Belotte.

“The girls have never played basketball together before this season, and most of them haven’t played organized basketball ever,” said Van Gieson. “They used this team as a chance to have no worries, laugh and enjoy each other’s company. New friendships have formed and they now spend time together as much as they can outside of basketball.”

He shared one element of the Ballers’ successful first year playing basketball.

“They laughed almost nonstop this season.”
