As the holiday season arrives, some of the most popular gift requests are video games. While the newest consoles from Sony and Microsoft are still seeing availability shortages, many new games can be played on older consoles. With that in mind, here is a list of some of the most anticipated video games coming out this holiday season.

Halo Infinite
Releases December 8
PC, Xbox Series S and X, and Xbox One

After being delayed for a year, the long-anticipated “Halo Infinite” continues Master Chief’s story with the game serving as the third part of the ongoing saga. The game brings a true open world to the series for the first time, like other open-world games including “Far Cry” and “Assassin’s Creed.”

Metroid Dread
Released October 8
Nintendo Switch

Taking the series back to its two-dimensional, side-scrolling origins, “Metroid Dread” is a direct sequel to 2002’s “Metroid Fusion” and finishes the nearly 35-year-long story started by the original game.

Forza Horizon 5
Released November 5
PC, Xbox Series X and S, and Xbox One

The fifth installment in the popular open-world driving series, “Forza Horizon 5” will allow players to cruise around and explore a beautiful rendition of Mexico. Drive along the edge of an active volcano, explore the nooks and crannies of the city of Guanajuato, or cruise in any of the over 500 vehicles available in the game.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy
Released October 22
PS4, PS5, PC, Xbox Series S and X, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch

Based on the lovable and popular group of Marvel characters, “Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy” will allow players to control Star-Lord, the leader of the Guardians, as they try to fix a series of catastrophic mistakes that threaten to destroy the fragile balance of a universe already at the breaking point after a major war.

Battlefield 2042
Released November 19
PS4, PS5, PC, Xbox Series S and X, and Xbox One

If you’re looking for massive and chaotic maps — filled with 128 players and fun, immersive and spontaneous gameplay — “Battlefield 2042” is for you. Along with numerous new maps, BF 2042 introduces two new game modes, the first being Hazard Zone. But it’s the other game mode, Portal, that has most players clamoring. Portal brings back classic maps, factions, and weapons from all of the previous Battlefield installments and allows players to make their own games. Want to watch 128 players fight with knives only or see the German army from World War II take on the modern American army? Portal allows players to do just that.

Call of Duty Vanguard
Released November 5
PS4, PS5, PC, Xbox Series S and X, and Xbox One

The next game in a popular annual series, “Vanguard” returns Call of Duty (COD) to its origins, taking players back to World War II. While there have been quite a few COD games set in World War II, “Vanguard” will show more of the war to players than ever before, taking them to the Western and Eastern Fronts, the North African campaign, and the War in the Pacific.
