Ziff Represents Falcons Well, Takes Sixth Place At States

Severna Park sophomore Sam Ziff represented the Severna Park Falcons in the 3A/4A Maryland Public School Secondary Athletic Association’s State Wresting tournament on Friday, March 4 and Saturday, March 5 at the University of Maryland in College Park. Ziff returned to Severna Park with an impressive sixth place finish.

Wrestling in the 145-pound weight class, Ziff began his Cole Field House appearance with a 5-2 decision over Victor Calderon of Northwest High School. In the second round, Ziff fell to South Region Champion Eric Hoffman of Northern Calvert and moved to the consolation bracket where he topped Zachary Mills of DuVal, 4-3, at the start of day two. Guaranteed a top-six placement, Ziff defeated Taylor Koncen of Chopticon, 4-2. In the next round, Ziff fell to Luke Stocky of Northwood in 1:57, and then lost a 3-2 decision to BCC’s Jonah Goldman.
