Wizards Are Fifth/Sixth-Grade B Bracket Champs

The fifth/sixth-grade Wizards posted a successful 5-3 regular season and followed it up by winning the Green Hornets basketball B bracket championship at Severn School on February 23.

The team of Faisal Mahmood, Caleb Gremillion, Luke DeBaugh, Kylen Belt, Will Campbell, Blake Howell, Druh Naran, Sean Hoban and Terrell Jefferies barely knew one another and had little experience playing together when practices began, but they worked together to notch two overtime victories during the season and three playoff games won by a total of seven points.

The team was led by DeBaugh, who dominated in the paint. Howell, Naran and Gremillion ran point guard and guided the offensive attack. Belt, Mahmood and Campbell protected the baseline and crashed the boards. Jefferies and Hoban worked the top of the key to open shooting lanes.

“Through hard work, the team can be best described as ‘never give up,’” said coach John Gremillion, who coached the team with Kevin Belt. “The team showed a lot of resilience and always fought to the final buzzer.”
