"The Little Mermaid" at Annapolis High School

Want to escape the woes of day-to-day life and travel to an undersea realm? Come to Annapolis High School’s "The Little Mermaid!" Disney’s Broadway production originally opened in 2008 and was written by Doug Wright, with music by Alan Menken, and lyrics by Howard Ashman and Glenn Slater. Annapolis High School’s "The Little Mermaid" will run from April 5 to April 14, with two full weekends of shows. "The Little Mermaid" will be an event of spectacular fun and enjoyment — you’ll definitely want to be “part of that world!”

This production is nothing short of extraordinary; the AHS Drama Company will be incorporating revolutionary elements into both the technical design and the performance. The majority of the cast will sign in American Sign Language (ASL) for the entirety of the show, something that a high school has rarely attempted previously. The set design will incorporate reused materials such as plastic bottles to create an intricate acting space.

Actors from the company have been diligently working on the production since this past fall. Annapolis High School Drama Company has often taken risks with its shows in years past, but not anything quite like this production. Erin Lorenz, lead director of the company, said, “I am so proud of the work our students are doing to create a unique retelling of a childhood classic.”
