Road To States: Falcon Girls Defeat Broadneck 16-6 For Region Title

The Severna Park girls are heading back to the state tournament.

A year after falling to South River in the 4A East region championship, the Falcons duly earned their entry into this year’s state tournament on Wednesday, defeating Broadneck 16-6 in the 4A East region final at Severna Park High School to get back to the big show for the first time since 2017.

Hunter Chadwick and Hailey Blachly scored four goals apiece to lead a devastating offensive onslaught for the Falcons, who raced out to an early lead and never let up. Kailyn McCulloch and Cam Chew added two goals each, while Theresa Bragg, Hailey Betch, Maddy Brady and Kayla Minton all scored goals in the win. Brady added three assists, while Betch and Julia Putzi both had two assists, and Delaney Ott made nine saves.

Alexis Sullivan led Broadneck with three goals, while Sammy Dupcak had two goals and Kaala Puglisi had three assists. Devon McCue made 10 saves for the Bruins.

The Falcons advance to face Walt Whitman, the 4A West champs, in the state semifinals on Friday night at 8 p.m. at Gaithersburg High School.
