Kyle Lowman Needs Your Help

Kyle Lowman’s life changed on August 24.

Lowman, a 2017 graduate of Severna Park High School who played football and lacrosse for the Falcons, was critically injured in a motor vehicle accident in St. Petersburg, Florida.

The collision resulted in a range of injuries to Kyle, including the loss of his right leg.

Lowman has been recovering at a hospital in St. Petersburg and is in now in stable condition.

Kyle’s father, Rich Lowman, said in a Facebook post that Kyle “is a strong kid and we know that he will get through this. We are grateful that he is alive, and with life there is hope.”

Kyle now faces the challenge of regaining overall health and adjusting to life with just one leg. According to Rich Lowman, the driver who reportedly caused the collision has minimal insurance, and the prosthetic leg best suited for Kyle will be expensive and not covered by insurance.

“We are trying to raise money to get Kyle a prosthetic that will help him continue an active lifestyle,” said Lowman.

A GoFundMe page has been established to help raise money for Kyle’s prosthetic and defray ongoing medical expenses.

In addition to the GoFundMe page, community members organized to have healthy meals delivered to Kyle in hospital while he recovers.

The Lowman family said the outpouring of support from community members back home in Severna Park has been significant since Kyle’s accident. Kyle received calls from Severna Park football coach Will Bell, Severna Park lacrosse coach Dave Earl, Severna Park student resource officer Alex Swartz and others, and the Lowman family has received hundreds if not thousands of messages in support since last Friday.

“It’s going to be a long road, but the Severna Park community has reached out and lifted us up,” he said. “It is absolutely insane how much love and support we have received. I wouldn’t expect anyone to understand how much the support affects [our] attitude.”

As of August 30, Kyle was moving down the hospital hallway with a walker and receiving visits from friends and family.

Kyle exhibited mental strength and resiliency in a Facebook message.

“Words can’t describe how thankful I am for all your support,” Kyle said. “God definitely chose a different path for me, and it’s been very agonizing day by day, but the amazing words you all have sent to me have kept me moving strong to get through this.”
