JV Falcons Primed For Continued Success After County Title Game Appearance

Not altogether surprisingly, the Severna Park-Arundel baseball rivalry appears well set up to remain a fierce one in the coming years.

The Falcon and Wildcat JV teams delivered a prequel to their varsity battles on May 7 as the Wildcats came from 1-0 down in the final innings to defeat Severna Park 2-1 and win the county’s inaugural JV baseball championship at Bachman Sports Complex.

The Falcons finished the season 19-2-1 overall. Severna Park lost to Arundel in the third game of the season on March 27, then came back to defeat the Wildcats during their spring break tournament. They tied Spalding in the same tournament and went undefeated over 17 games before falling in the county championship.

Sophomore starting pitcher Nick Carparelli said the Falcons can hold their heads high.

“I am proud that we reached our goal, which was the county game,” Carparelli said. “I’ll be on varsity, but [for JV] now they have something to play for, and it’s their turn to step up.”

Head coach Dave Ferris, who will coach many of the players on a Green Hornets 16U team this summer, said his Falcons had a nonetheless great season.

“Unbelievable group of kids,” said Ferris. “Good mix of sophomores and freshmen. The sophomore leadership, they dominated playing time, but it was a good mix, good chemistry, couldn’t ask for any much more than their effort. We lost the [third] game of the season and then didn’t lose again until today, so that’s a pretty good run. Our parents were supportive, and the assistant coach was fantastic. We were just one run short, and the game could have gone either way. It’s a good core of kids, the sophomores are very talented, so they’ll help the varsity next year.”
