The Severna Park High School girls soccer team snapped a 13-game winning streak when they fell 2-0 to Leonardtown in the region finals of the MPSSA tournament.

The girls, who from the onset had their sites on a run to the state finals, blew through the first three rounds of the tournament - all at home - with ease. The magic number in the tournament seemed to be 2-0. After a first round bye, the second-seed Falcons topped North Point 2-0, and then edged out county rival and three-seed Broadneck, 2-0, before falling by the same score to a team from St. Mary’s county team.
Prior to the state tournament, the Falcons defended their District V title by posting a 1-0 win over Marriotts Ridge in the final. Freshman Abby Thomas scored the game-winning goal early and the Howard County team never answered, leaving the title to the Falcons for the second year in a row.
On the season, the Lady Falcons racked up an impressive 14-1-3 record including 12 shutouts and big wins against Severn School, Broadneck and Arundel. All three ties were in overtime, and an outstanding Falcons’ defense allowed only eight goals in 18 meetings. The Falcons’ offense, led by top-scorer and senior Marisa Kresge, averaged three goals per game.
