Back-To-Back: Hornets Take Second Straight Scrub League Title

With a 34-27 victory at Severna Park Middle School on February 26, coach Jeff Gaylord’s Hornets defeated the Cavaliers to win the Green Hornets ‘Scrub’ basketball league championship, the Hornets’ second consecutive Scrub League title. “The Hornets had a great season this year,” said assistant coach Mike Marsella, whose Hornets finished 14-4 overall. “We overcame some injuries early on, and then they just gelled down the stretch. Whatever they had to do as a team, they pitched in. Different guys stepped up. The senior leadership this year really helped the team win. In [the Scrub league], they kind of self-coach, so there was a lot of maturity and leadership. As the season went along, they really got better.”
