Demetrius Powell scored two touchdowns — one on a long run to the outside and another on a kickoff return — and Trent Phillips had an interception he returned for a touchdown as the Severna Park JV football posted a 20-0 shutout of South River at Northeast High School on September 28. Quarterback Casey Fox hit Mikey Harmeyer for a two-point conversion after Phillips’ pick-six, and the Falcons improved to 4-1 overall with the win.

“It was great,” said head coach Mike Wright about the win. “We scored on offense, defense and special teams. You can’t ask more than that.”

The Falcons also controlled the possession battle with the running game, possessing the ball for well over half the game.

In addition to the team’s 13-8 win over Broadneck on September 15, the JV Falcons also have wins over North County and Chesapeake at the season’s midway point. Severna Park enters the second half of the season having suffered only a defeat to Old Mill, and the team has three victories in which every member of the roster has seen game action.

“4-1 is great, and I love that we’re going into the second half of the season with a positive record,” said Wright. “It’s a great group of kids, and they just all work.”
