It’s a good day to be a Falcon: The Severna Park girls lacrosse, boys lacrosse, softball and baseball teams all had playoff games on Monday, and each group of Falcons marched to victory to advance in their respective region brackets.

The Severna Park girls lacrosse team, the No. 1 seed in Section I of the 4A/3A East, faced a tough opponent in Howard High School at Kinder Park. The Lady Falcons defeated the Lions 15-4 back on April 19 when neither squad was at full strength, and this matchup proved to be markedly more competitive. The Lions made matters difficult early, taking a 1-0 lead and staying within a goal or two of the Falcons in a first half that ended with Severna Park ahead 7-6 on goals by, among others, Hunter Chadwick, Alex Miller and Claire Domshick. The Lady Falcons, who defeated Arundel last Friday in their second-round playoff matchup after enjoying a first-round bye, had to clamp down defensively in the second half and came away as 14-10 winners to advance to Wednesday’s region final against the winner of Leonardtown and South River.

The Severna Park boys lacrosse team kept its undefeated season churning against a familiar foe, Howard High School. The Falcons defeated the Lions in last year’s state final and again in a regular-season matchup this April, and it didn’t take long for Severna Park to flex its collective muscle on Monday. The Falcons, top seed in the 4A/3A East, never trailed and steadily eroded the effort of the Lions en route to a 15-5 win. Severna Park advances to host the winner of Broadneck and South River in the region final on Wednesday at 3:30 at Kinder Park.

The Severna Park softball team used a balance of lights-out pitching, strong defense and timely hitting to blank Glen Burnie, 5-0, at Bachman Park. Marissa Heuer went the distance for Severna Park, allowing only four hits and striking out five Gophers to help the Falcons advance. Campbell Kline was 2 for 3 with 3 RBIs, while Heuer had two hits and an RBI, Madison Gerard had two hits and an RBI and Hailey Manning and Jessie Smith added base hits for the Falcons. Catcher Cydney Moore made a nice defensive play in the third inning, throwing out a would-be base stealer on a perfect strike, and second baseman Emily Summers made a nifty 4-3 double play in the fourth inning, fielding a grounder, tagging a runner and flipping to first to end a Glen Burnie threat. Heuer robbed Glen Burnie of a hit by snaring a line-drive comebacker in the third. Severna Park will travel to top seed Arundel for the 4A East Section I final (the region semifinal) on Wednesday. The Wildcats defeated the Falcons 2-1 in their matchup this season.

Finally, the Severna Park baseball team moved to 20-2 on the season with a 13-2 throttling of North County in five innings. Matt Glady went the distance for Severna Park, scattering six hits and allowing only one earned run in getting the victory. The Falcon offense jumped all over North County early, scoring five runs in the first inning on hits by George Lesher, Jake Hallett and Ben Hollingsworth after Scott Huntley and Kody Milton both reached base. Lesher was 3 for 4 with a double and two singles and scored three runs while Huntley scored three runs, Milton was 1 for 2 with a walk and two runs, Hallett was 2 for 2 and scored twice, Hollingsworth singled and doubled and scored twice, and Cameron Clark tripled and scored. The Falcons will host the winner of Arundel and Old Mill at Joe Cannon Stadium on Tuesday at 4:30 in the 4A East Section I final.

Four wins made up your playoff day. Here’s hoping the rest of May brings more of the same:
