School is back in session after Winter Break and already the calendars are filling up. There is a lot going on in Anne Arundel County Public Schools in the next few months!

AACPS

Public Hearings for the budget are scheduled for Jan. 10 at Old Mill High School and Jan. 12 at the Parham Building in Annapolis, in the Board Room. Both hearings begin at 7:00pm and sign ups start at 6:00pm.

HSA TESTING

HSA Testing runs through Jan. 20.

END OF MARKING PERIOD

The second marking period ends on Jan. 20.

REPORT CARDS

Check your mailboxes, report card distribution is set for Feb. 3.

Don’t miss the It’s Academic Team on Channel 13 Jan. 14 at 10:00am.

SPHS DRAMA

Tickets for Rock ‘n’ Roll Revival go on sale in February. During all performances, students will be taking donations for the Cisco Center. The goal is to raise $10,000.

SAT AND ACT TESTING

SAT Testing dates are Jan. 28, Mar. 20, May 5 and June 2. There is still time to make the Jan. 28 testing date, but a late fee will apply.

ACT Testing dates are Feb. 11, Apr. 4, and June 9.

Please remember that official scores can only be sent from the College Board or ACT and it may take up to four weeks to process your order and for the college to receive your scores.

INCOMING 9TH GRADE PARENT NIGHT

Visit the SPHS auditorium on Feb. 1 at 6:30pm for a night you won’t want to miss. Meet the SPHS counselors and walk through the scheduling process. Bring your student’s course selection sheets (to be distributed Jan. 30). Students and parents are welcome.

YEARBOOKS

The price for a yearbook is now $35, and will be on sale until Jan. 30. Don’t miss out.

REGISTRATION

High School counselors will be registering eighth graders during math classes on Jan. 30. Parent’s Night for incoming ninth-grader parents is at SPHS on Feb. 1.

Jan. 30 through Feb. 3, counselors will be visiting grade level math classes to begin registration processes for next year. Completed forms are due back to the math teacher by Feb. 13.

For incoming sixth graders, registration begins at the elementary schools on Jan. 30. Parents of students at Oak Hill, Shipley’s Choice and Severna Park Elementary Schools should attend Parent’s Night on Feb. 7 at 6:30pm in the SPMS cafeteria. Parents of students at Benfield, Folgers and Jones Elementary should attend Parent’s Night on Feb. 9, also at 6:30pm in the SPMS cafeteria.

EXAM SCHEDULES

2012 exams for eighth grade and algebra students are as follows, Jan. 12, 13, 17, 18, 19 and 20. There is a two-hour early dismissal on the 17 through 20.

SPARTAN LYRICAL SOCIETY

Winter Concerts are here. The sixth and seventh graders will perform on Jan. 17 and the eighth graders on Jan. 18. Both concerts will be held at SPHS, students need to arrive at the high school cafeteria by 6:30pm, in their uniforms.

COOL SCHOOLS

SPMS has organized a team of 40 students and several teachers to take part in the Cool Schools day for the Polar Bear Plunge. Money raised from the event supports Maryland Special Olympics; SPMS has set a goal of raising $3,000.

BROADNECK HIGH

TALENT SHOW

Auditions will be held Jan. 31 through Feb. 2. Potential performers need to sign up outside of Mrs. Casey’s classroom (C205).
