Wednesday, April 4

10:30am-noon: The Tate Cancer Center Survivorship Program offers therapeutic yoga for cancer patients. Both patients and caregivers are welcome and no prior yoga experience is necessary. Chair yoga and deep breathing will also be offered. The program is free. Bring water. Reservations are not requested but encouraged. For more information, call 410-302-7663. (Executive Center, 300 Hospital Drive, Suite 128). This class is offered every Wednesday at the same time throughout the month.

4:30-5:30pm: Preventing Diabetes - A diabetes educator will lead a one-hour class discussing factors leading to diabetes and lifestyle changes to prevent diabetes and improve overall health. The class is free, but reservations are requested. To register or for more information, call 410-787-4940. (Center for Diabetes and Endocrinology at UM BWMC, 300 Hospital Drive, Suite 223). This class will also be offered on Thursday, April 12, from 2:00pm to 3:00pm and Monday, April 23, from 10:00am to 11:00am.

5:00-6:30pm: Cancer Survivorship Support Group – This free, self-care skills class and group discussion offers information and support for cancer patients and survivors. In addition to networking and peer support, the group will discuss timely topics related to treatment and care. (Tate Cancer Center, first-floor conference room, 305 Hospital Drive). 6:00-8:00pm: The University of Maryland Center for Weight Management and Wellness offers a weight loss surgery support group. (Dr. Constantine Padussis Conference Center, 301 Hospital Drive, third floor). Registration is required by calling 410-328-8940. Friday, April 6

Monday, April 9

7:00-8:30pm: Smoking Cessation - A seven-week class for those wanting to quit smoking (radiology conference room, lower level, 301 Hospital Drive). Class size is limited to 14 and participants will be registered on a first come, first serve basis. To register, call 410-553-8103.

 

Tuesday, April 10

6:00-7:30pm: The Stroke Support Group meets to discuss stroke recovery and prevention in the Dr. Constantine Padussis Conference Center (301 Hospital Drive, third floor). For more information, call 410-787-4732.

 

Wednesday, April 11

8:30am-noon: Free blood pressure screening at Harundale Presbyterian Church (Eastway and Guilford Road in Glen Burnie). Reservations are not requested.

1:00-3:00pm: Look Good, Feel Better - a free program offered by the American Cancer Society for women dealing with hair loss and/or skin changes from cancer treatment. During this workshop, you will learn specific techniques to help make the most of your appearance while undergoing treatment. (Tate Cancer Center, 305 Hospital Drive, third-floor conference room). Preregistration is requested by calling 1-800-395 LOOK (5665).

2:00-3:00pm: Lactation support group open to all breastfeeding mothers (301 Hospital Drive, 3 South classroom). Reservations are not requested and children are welcome. For more information, call 410-595-1782.

10:00am-2:00pm: UM BWMC will host a Spring Into Wellness Block Party outside the medical center. Health screenings, kids activities, food trucks, a giant inflatable walkthrough brain, and other entertainment will be offered! For more information, call 410-553-8103.

Friday, April 20

6:30-8:00pm: Mental Health Support Group for community members and families seeking information on psychiatric issues. Meetings are held in Room A of the Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) located on the second floor of UM BWMC. Reservations are not requested. For more information, call 410-553-8070.

 

Thursday, April 26

6:00-7:00pm: Ostomy Support Group – for anyone with a urinary or fecal diversion (an ostomy), their family members or support people, patients with Crohn’s disease or colitis, or anyone looking for ostomy advice and support. The program covers topics that include ostomy options, hygiene and maintenance, psychosocial issues, recommendations and local resources. In addition to a presentation, participants are encouraged to share experiences and helpful tips in open discussion. (Dr. Constantine Padussis Conference Center, 301 Hospital Drive, third floor).
