Nonprofit Race Series Gives Children A Fun Introduction To Running

Healthy Kids Running Series (HKRS), the national nonprofit race series designed to combat increasing rates of childhood obesity through the introduction of running, is launching in the Annapolis area on Sunday, April 8, with its inaugural spring series at Anne Arundel Community College (AACC). HKRS is a five-week youth running program created by Jeff Long, founder and president of HKRS.

HKRS is created for children ages 2 through eighth grade. Each age division runs distances that promote exercise, goal setting and camaraderie.

“The Healthy Kids Running Series is all about having fun and motivating kids to be active,” Long said. “Our goal is to provide a fun and positive experience for every participant and see them improve over the five weeks. We are thrilled to have Greater Annapolis area families join this important cause.”

HKRS Greater Annapolis is supported by generous donations from Anne Arundel Community College, Charm City Run, the Creig Northrop Team of Long & Foster Real Estate, and Macaroni Kid.

At the completion of the series, each participant receives a participation medal. Trophies will be awarded based on total points to the top boy and girl in each age group. All runners registered for the five-week program receive a race bag and HKRS tech T-shirt.
