Department Of Health Awards $592,000 In Community Grants

DOH Supports Substance Misuse Prevention And Recovery Services

The Anne Arundel County Department of Health has awarded a total of $592,000 in grants to local programs that help enrich the quality of life for Anne Arundel County families and communities. The Fiscal Year 2018 grants support capital projects and program operations that focus on substance use disorder prevention and recovery support services.

“As we continue to fight the heroin and opioid epidemic, funding for nonprofits remains vital,” said County Executive Steven Schuh. “These grants are an affirmation of our commitment to ensure those who want to get into recovery can do so.”

Capital Projects

The Arundel Lodge, which serves individuals with behavioral health disorders, will receive $5,960 for building repairs. Chrysalis House will receive $2,000 to expand parking for staff and visitors at the treatment program for women and their children. Samaritan House will receive $50,000 to help construct a facility for additional recovery services. The University of Maryland Medical System Foundation will receive $50,000 to provide equipment for the University of Maryland Medical Center’s labor and delivery unit.

Program Operations

The Anne Arundel Conflict Resolution Center will receive $10,000 to support education and mediation services. The Anne Arundel County Food Bank will receive $98,000 to provide food and other necessities. The Anne Arundel County Mental Health Agency will receive $222,040 to support the Anne Arundel County Crisis Response System. Samaritan House will receive $25,000 to enhance transportation services for recovery activities and medical appointments. We Care and Friends will receive $14,000 to support staffing for social service programs. The YWCA of Annapolis and Anne Arundel County will receive $115,000 to help provide assistance to men, women and children who are leaving abusive domestic situations.
