Severna Park and Arnold are beautiful and unique communities where we shop, dine, live and play. We love our communities and many of us have lived here all our lives. We can drive anywhere in Maryland, skiing at Wisp Resort in the winter and enjoying the Ocean City beach in the summer.

We can drive to our nation’s capital and to Philadelphia, home of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. A three-hour drive away, New York is a shopping and dining mecca, not to mention home base for the New York Stock Exchange and Broadway, and headquarters for some of our largest companies. And after our visits to these incredible places, we return home to the comfort of our lovely community.

Speaking of community, the chamber is host to four wonderful events in the spring.

On May 19, Park Plaza will be the scene of our Shop Local initiative. Businesses will have tables to display products and services, and all are invited to meet these leaders who keep our local economy strong. We will have entertainment, demonstrations, games, a petting zoo and much more. It is a day of enjoyment and fun for all ages, so be sure to mark your calendars.

The next event is our health and wellness fair for you and your pets. This will be held at the Holy Grounds Community Center on June 2. Many of our residents are already committed to healthy living and many more would like to get healthy (and keep your pets healthy, too). Local businesses in the health and wellness field will display their products and services, and there will be lectures and demonstrations by experts on various topics related to healthy living. Save the date for this great event!

Most of you already know that we sponsor one of the largest and best-attended Fourth of July parades in the state. Our theme this year is “Serving Our Country, Serving Our Community.” The parade features community and business floats, military honorees, antique cars, Girl and Boy Scouts, elected officials and much more. Residents living on the parade route set up chairs and tents and enjoy a bird’s-eye view of all the activity. We are proud to announce that our grand marshal is Linda Zahn, past CEO of the Greater Severna Park and Arnold Chamber of Commerce. Start thinking about your float for the parade!

Taking place from July 1 through 7 is Star-Spangled Restaurant Week. Eateries in Severna Park and Arnold will offer wonderful food and drink at discounted prices, allowing you to sample many of our great restaurants and stay within your budget. Whether you are looking for a delectable breakfast or lunch, or dinner with entertainment, there is something for everyone of all ages and tastes. We are so fortunate to have outstanding places that cater to every palate. Stay tuned for more information on this wonderful, tasty week!

Membership in the chamber and access to our events is open to all — not just business owners. You can get to know your businesses better by attending ribbon cuttings, seminars and the other many programs that we sponsor. Check our website at www.severnaparkchamber.com for more information, like us on Facebook and visit our Facebook events page to see the many activities we have going on! And of course, remember to shop local, as nothing replaces people-to-people, face-to-face, personal touch!
