In this economy, more people are choosing to renovate rather than relocate. Whatever your motivation and whether you’re a do-it-yourselfer or plan to pay someone else to do the work start to finish, getting solid advice on your project is an important first step.
With just five years of history, Dove Remodeling may sound new, but the company has operated under a different name for over 32 years. Owner Jerry Jones, Jr. is quick to point out that Dove is a local Christian company; the family lives in Pasadena with offices just a mile from home. “We’re a licensed contractor, and we specialize in doing small jobs,” Jones explains. “You can’t usually get this quality and expertise for minor jobs.” Jones even restructured the company to be able to handle the “smaller work” – including adding a screen repair/rescreening service just like the old hardware stores used to do. “You can drop them off, or we can come to your house,” says Jones.
Jones says their business has changed over the years. When the company first started, “every household had a hammer,” he laughed. “Today, 70% don’t know what a hammer is.” The company has adapted with the times, focusing on the smaller jobs that used to be done by a handyman or do-it-yourself type. They also offer something totally unique – you can “rent” a professional helper from Dove.
Jones describes the unique concept, “You can rent one of our guys for the day,” he says. “So if you’re handy, but don’t know codes, or just need an extra pair of good hands, you can rent one of our contractors to assist. It’s a huge savings.”
One couple planned to renovate a bathroom, usually a $7,000 to $9,000 job, but they had a $3,000 budget. The couple did the demolition work themselves, bought the materials and rented two licensed workers from Dove to do the installation, then did the finish work themselves. Project completed, on time and within budget.
Jones offers another example of a roof installation. The husband and five friends were all set to do the roof. To ensure things were done correctly, they hired a roofer from Dove for $489. Since Dove mechanics come “fully equipped” with appropriate tools, they saved about $250 on tool rental. The roof was completed in one day with volunteer-friend labor, and supervised by a professional roofer. It doesn’t get better than that.
“We’re here to help,” Jones says. “We’ll do it all, just a part, or we’ll supervise and advise. We’re local and you can call us for anything.”
For Jones, community and family are important. “We’ve raised five kids here,” he explains. “They all went to school here. We love this community.”
Jones encourages people to call the office with any questions, “There is always someone in the office to answer the phones. It’s very easy to work with us.”
